Bicol University’s Winning Interpretation of Ibalong

Of the eight official contingents in the recently concluded Ibalong Festival 2011 Street Presentation, Bicol University’s (Contingent No. 4) interpretation of Bicol’s Ibalong emerged as the most unique and colorful. Bicol University is this year’s Ibalong Festival Street Presentation Grand Champion. Bagging all except one of the major awards, Bicol University’s performance left nothing but awe to the judges and spectators.

Bicol University stole from other seven (7) contingents 4 of 5 major awards: Warrior Princess, Best in Costume and Props, Best in Music and Sound, and Best in Exhibition. The winning contingent landed first runner up in Street Dancing.

Bicol University garnered a total cash prize of P390,000.00 and a chance to represent the Ibalong Festival on Magayon Festival of Festivals Competition to be held April next year.

Ibalong Festival Street Presentation 2011

The streets of Legazpi City were filled with festivity last August 20, 2011 when eight different contingents relived and gave their creative and colorful interpretations of the Bicol’s very own folk epic, the Ibalong. The street dancing parade kicked off at Peñaranda Park, took the Rizal Street-Quezon Avenue route and finally had the exhibition contest proper at the Legazpi Grand Central Terminal. Thousands of Legazpeños, local and foreign tourists flocked into the venue to witness one of the Ibalong Festival 2011’s highlights.

Warrior Princess 2011: Bicol University’s

Best in Costume and Props: Bicol University

Best in Music and Sound: Bicol University

Best in Street Dance: Oro Site High School

Best in Exhibition: Bicol University

Bicol University emerged as the Grand Champion in this year’s Ibalong Festival Street Presentation. A total of 390,000 cash prize was garnered by the Bicol University contingent. A source said that the Grand Champion will represent the Ibalong Festival on Magayon Festival of Festivals Competition to be held April next year.
