The Search for Mr. and Ms. Bicol University 2012: A Night of Colours in Whimsical World, A Teenage Dream Experience

Mr. Engineering Daniel Joshua Dado and Ms. Education Monalyn Abaluado were declared Mr. and Ms. Bicol University (BU) 2012. The teenage-themed coronation night was held on September 19, 2012 at Albay Astrodome, Legazpi City. The night has drawn to a big surprise as dark horses of the competition took home the coveted titles, beating the social media and crowd favorites.

Flash-mob-inspired production number took place after the program’s lead up to the amazement and cheering of the crowd. All clad in colorful costumes and wigs, the candidates formally opened the competition by dancing to the tune of Katy Perry songs.

Encouraging message was given by no less than Bicol University President Fay Lea Patria M. Lauraya during the program which centered on commending BU students for being the ‘best students of Bicol Region’ and the university’s image as a beauty and brain powerhouse, having produced regional, national and international beauty titlists.

Common questions were given to male and female candidates during the final Q&A. Male candidates were all asked to cite what color could best describe their life. On the other hand, female candidates were all asked to describe their whimsical world as a contemporary teenager in three words/adjectives.

Black for ‘variety’ is what Mr. CENg Daniel Joshua Dado had as his winning edge over his competitors, while ‘colorful, happy and vibrant’ living of life to the fullest eventually made Ms. CE Monalyn Abaluado as this year’s Ms. Bicol University.

Off to Broadway Avenue: The Mr. and Ms. Bicol University 2011

Ms. College of Science Francia Layderos and Mr. College of Business Economics and Management Christian Dan Morada emerged as this year’s Mr. and Ms. Bicol University!

Dubbed as OFF TO BROADWAY AVENUE: A NIGHT OF GLITZ And GLAMOUR, Bicol University had its Broadway-themed 2011 Search for Mr. and Ms. Bicol University on September 21, 2011 at the Albay Astrodome. Bueños herded into the venue to witness the turning over of the titles from last year’s Ms. BU Iana France Villania and Mr. BU Casiano Bibon.

Fourteen BU colleges and campuses had their bets vie for this year’s Mr. and Ms. Bicol University title. Candidates took the stage and hit the catwalk with Broadway-like prods and attires.

Bicol University’s Winning Interpretation of Ibalong

Of the eight official contingents in the recently concluded Ibalong Festival 2011 Street Presentation, Bicol University’s (Contingent No. 4) interpretation of Bicol’s Ibalong emerged as the most unique and colorful. Bicol University is this year’s Ibalong Festival Street Presentation Grand Champion. Bagging all except one of the major awards, Bicol University’s performance left nothing but awe to the judges and spectators.

Bicol University stole from other seven (7) contingents 4 of 5 major awards: Warrior Princess, Best in Costume and Props, Best in Music and Sound, and Best in Exhibition. The winning contingent landed first runner up in Street Dancing.

Bicol University garnered a total cash prize of P390,000.00 and a chance to represent the Ibalong Festival on Magayon Festival of Festivals Competition to be held April next year.

41st Bicol University Commencement Exercises

The premier state university in the Bicol Region – Bicol University – will have its 41st Commencement Exercises on March 30, 2011, 3:00 pm at the Bicol University Commencement Grounds. This year’s exercises is of high significance since it marks the maiden year for Bicol University as an ISO 9001:2008 certified institution. This year’s theme is “Bicol University: Educating for Peace and International Understanding”. The invited commencement speaker is Hon. Juan Edgardo M. Angara, Chairperson of the Senate Committee for Technical and Higher Education of the House of Representatives, Member of the Board of Regents, and also the Representative for the Lone District of Aurora.

The University Commencement Exercises will confer its graduates in various degrees and fields of specialization for Summer 2010, 1st and 2nd Semester 2010-2011.

The following are the scheduled commencement exercises for other campuses of the Bicol University.
