Summer Fun in Caramoan

It’s summer once again and many travelers are hungering after beaches. Philippines indeed is an archipelago of fine-looking islands and white-sand beaches, hence, looking for one to spend a vacation in is that trouble-free.

Picturesque boat ride in Caramoan Islands.

Caramoan Islands in Camarines Sur is just one of the summer destinations for beach bums in the Bicol Region. Home to many editions of international reality hit Survivor, Caramoan boasts its white sand coasts, clear waters and wide array of rock formations.

I together with four friends spent Easter in Caramoan. Through Caramoan Adventures, the travel agency in charge of our stay, we experienced the splendor Caramoan has to offer.

How We Got There

From Legazpi City, we took a 2-hour travel to Naga City. We departed Legazpi City at exactly 5am. By 7:30am we took another 1.5-hr ride to Sabang Port, the gateway to Caramoan. To save time, we took a van for us to make it early in the Port. At the Port, we waited for nearly a couple of hours due to the big number of passengers and the limited number of boats taking travelers to Caramoan. At exactly 11 am, we headed off to Caramoan. That was another 2 hours of boat ride. An 8-hr travel and waiting time was indeed stressful! Definitely more stressful if you are coming from distant cities. In that case, travelling to Naga City by plane is really a must.

Sabang Port, Gateway to Caramoan. Two-hour boat ride prior to reaching the paradise. 🙂

When you are in Sabang Port, brace yourself for this stressful backride! 😀 This P20 porting service is needed in riding the boat. Just pray that the porter is strong enough not to be moved by the coming waves or else get wet! 🙂

From Guijalo Port to Your Ultimate Experience

In Guijalo Port, travelers meet their contacts in Caramoan. If you made advanced bookings in any travel agencies in Caramoan, this is where your experience begins. Your contacts will pick you up in the Port, bring you to the hotel/inn to check-in and the island experience starts, depending on the package you availed.

During our stay in Caramoan, we were accommodated in Sights and Sand Tourist Inn, a cozy villa-like accommodation having nearly 10 rooms.

Swimming 'til Sunset. Fun! 😀

Swimming with your life vest on is pretty cool

In the afternoon of our first day, as stated in the itinerary of the travel package we availed, we went island hopping. Due to the ongoing Survivor shoot in various islands in Caramoan, not all the islands in the itinerary were visited. Nonetheless, it was absolutely a fun escapade! We went back to our inn at around 7pm, freshened up, ate dinner, and stroll by the Caramoan town proper for some souvenir.

This one is a genuine Survivor item left by one of Survivor's franchises in Caramoan as a gift.

On our 2nd day, we visited the Parish of St. Michael the Archangel. The 17th century structure of the church is awe-inspiring. It was Easter then, so celebrating and remembering risen Christ in the island was worthwhile.

How it Ended

Guijalo Port, Caramoan, Camsur

Guijalo Port was really packed during the time we were bound to go home. We waited at the port as early as 10am for us to immediately catch a boat to take us back to Sabang Port. At exactly 12nn, we were already bound for Naga City, taking from Caramoan fun photos to treasure and certainly memories of an ultimate summer experience.

Boat ride way home. 🙂

I Face 2012: Making it to the Swatch Enter the Dragon Top 50

Annually, The Philippine Star and Swatch celebrates Chinese New Year with an Art Competition. This year marked the 7th year of the contest and it focused on finding the most creative T-Shirt designs.

I decided to join the competition for the first time, and yeah, I made it to the top 50! Hopefully, there were hundreds of entries sent to the competition! LOL. Anyways, the prizes at stake were P100K + Swatch Year of the Dragon watch (1st Prize), P50K + Swatch Year of the Dragon watch (2nd Prize), P30K + Swatch Year of the Dragon watch (3rd Prize), P20K + Swatch Year of the Dragon watch (4th Prize), 10 Year of the Dragon watches for 10 honorable mentions, and of course the faction where I was placed, 36 P1K Gift Certificates for 36 chosen finalists, completing the Top 50 shirt designs. Only the Top 14 winners (4 major and 10 honorable) were invited to the Swatch Dragon Ball Party, held at Salon de Ning and graced by none other than Swatch ambassadress Anne Curtis! Why just the Top 14?! :O

The competition required the participants to send an actual T-Shirt entry depicting this year’s theme, Enter the Dragon. Designs should be inspired by any Swatch watch. Originally, I planned to create an entry having Swatch Year of the Dragon watch as the inspiration. But due to the constraint of not having a material with exact shade of blue available and as pictured below, I was forced to revise my plan.

I finally decided to have a long-sleeved blue ensemble stitched with a purple-colored dragon’s face in front. I named my entry, “I Face 2012”. Swatch Transition watch was my inspiration in designing my shirt. The brief description I attached to my entry reads like this, “Long-sleeved shirt stitched with a dragon’s face in front. It depicts dragon’s passion, courage and optimism needed to FACE 2012.”

After carefully checking that all of the requirements in joining the competition were not overlooked (i.e., Entry Form cut from The Philippine Star, Contest Guidelines Acceptance Form from any Swatch Stores [SM North Edsa] completely filled up, entry sealed in a plastic envelope with my sign on the flap), I finally sent my entry on February 23, 2012, 7 days before the deadline. The call for entries ran for almost two months.

I was formally informed that I was able to grab a P1K Swatch Gift Certificate when I received the letter from Gift Gate, Inc. As of this publishing, my request for the prize to be sent to my preferred address is on the process.

Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of the actual entry. Only the soft design above was left in my possession. Actual entries will not be returned since one of the mechanics in the Contest Guidelines Acceptance Form which all the participants signed reads, “The entries of the top 50 finalists will automatically become the exclusive property of Gift Gate Inc. and may be used, copied, reproduced and/or reprinted by Gift Gate Inc. into any size or medium for a fashion show, exhibition, advertising, promotion or whatever purpose.”

That’s it! Looking forward to joining next year’s Swatch SNAKE Art Contest! I was born under Snake, so hopefully, it will somehow be in my favor! 😉

Edsa 26: Anong Taya Mo Para Sa Pilipinas Natin?

February 22-25, 2012 mark the 26th anniversary of EDSA People Power Revolution. Revolving on the theme “EDSA 26: Anong Taya Mo Para Sa Pilipinas Natin?”, this year’s celebration is a call to action for all Filipinos to participate in nation building. The Edsa People Power Commission (EPPC) has also come up with activities on February 25, 2012 which aim to highlight the spirit of volunteerism and Bayanihan.

The President will lead the flag-raising rites at the People Power Monument and the traditional “Salubungan” on Edsa. Expected to join him are Vice President Jejomar Binay, former President Fidel Ramos, Ochoa, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Francis Tolentino, Metro Manila mayors and EPPC commissioners.

In the afternoon, Mr. Aquino will be in Trece Martires to turn over 21,000 houses to soldiers. According to the EPPC, this event is symbolic of the partnership of the military and civilians during the Edsa Revolution.

In Malacañang, Executive Secretary Ochoa issued Memorandum Circular No. 27 s. 2012, ordering all government officials and employees to take part in the Edsa anniversary activities.

I Choose Philippines (Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas ft. El Gamma Penumbra)

ABS-CBN Regional Network Group recently launched its 2nd music video of their own Philippine tourism campaign “Choose Philippines”. ‘Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas’ is sung by ABS-CBN talents Angeline Quinto and Vince Bueno. This 2nd music video features PGT grand finalist El Gamma Penumbra. It showcases the beauty of the Philippines through shadow dancing. This was officially launched on February 19 on ASAP 2012.

PILIIN MO ANG PILIPINAS
Angeline Quinto & Vince Bueno

Minsa’y natuwa ang Maylikha
Pitong libong pulo ang ginawa
Mga hiyas na inilatag
Sa mala-sutlang dagat

At ang bayan Niyang pinili
Nasa dulo ng bahaghari
kaya’t isanlibong kulay
Nang-aakit, kumakaway

Piliin mo rin ang Pilipinas
Kapuluang kwintas ng perlas
Piliin mo, yakapin mo
kayamanan nyang likas, Piliin mo ang Pilipinas

Kasayahang di mapatid
Ramdam sa bawat awit
sa masisiglang indak
mga puso’y lumilipad

Piliin mo rin ang Pilipinas
Kapuluang kwintas ng perlas
Piliin mo, yakapin mo
kayamanan nyang likas, Piliin mo ang Pilipinas

At ang ngiti ng Maykapal
Taglay ng bawat nilalang
May lambing na dumuduyan
Sa buong Pakiramdam

Piliin mo rin ang Pilipinas
Kapuluang kwintas ng perlas
Piliin mo, yakapin mo
kayamanan nyang likas, Piliin mo ang Pilipinas

Dito ay itinadhana
Araw, buwan at mga tala
Ganap na magniningning
Kailanma’y di magdidilim

If you know what i’m talking about
Suitcase in the house with the party sound
First choice, first love -if ya’ll ask the crowd
“WE GONNA CHOOSE PHILIPPINES”
Come on shout it out
Everybody’s gonna dance to this
I see the whole world party in the Philippines
Philippines now with Angeline
Quinto, Bueno-on the TV screen hey!
This is like a samba
From Rio to Manila will be hittin’ on drums ya
Shake shake it off on beats of life
No more drama
And shout: WE GONNA CHOOSE PHILIPPINES
No one other
The world keeps talking
But we aint walkin’
We keep on dancing
That’s how we rock it
7,107 islands of beauty
See pieces of heaven

Piliin mo rin ang Pilipinas
Piliin mo rin ang Pilipinas
Piliin mo rin ang Pilipinas
Piliin mo rin ang Pilipinas

Piliin mo rin ang Pilipinas
Kapuluang kwintas ng perlas
Piliin mo, yakapin mo
kayamanan nyang likas, Piliin mo ang Pilipinas

Piliin mo rin ang Pilipinas
Kapuluang kwintas ng perlas
Piliin mo, yakapin mo
kayamanan nyang likas, Piliin mo ang Pilipinas
